Resumo: The article discusses the entry into higher education, the tensions engendered by academic, socio-familial and personal challenges, which enhance the student’s mental illness. Debates the effects of counter-reforms in higher education and their consequences in the precariousness of student assistance. It locates the ways of coping with this illness in order to facilitate the academic process. The results point to limits, possibilities and constraints in the face of the current neoliberal scenario, as well as the effort of the team from the Healthy Program (UFG), that ensures students access to the right to mental health care provided by student assistance. The study was carried out from dialectical materialism articulates bibliographical, documental and field research. It was submitted and approved by the ethics committee.

Debate os efeitos das contrarreformas na educação superior e suas consequências na precarização da assistência estudantil. Situa as formas de enfrentamento ao adoecimento com o propósito de facilitar o processo acadêmico. Os resultados apontam limites, possibilidades e constrangimentos diante do atual cenário neoliberal, assimcomo o esforço da equipe do Programa Saudavelmente  (UFG), que assegura aos estudantes o acesso ao direito à assistência em saúde mental prevista pela assistência  estudantil. O estudo é fundamentado no materialismo  históricodialético pela possibilidade de ultrapassar a  aparência do objeto apontando suas contradições, seus fundamentos ideológicos e mediações com a totalidadesocial. De abordagem qualitativa, o estudo articula  pesquisa bibliográfica, documental e de campo.
