Social representation of sustainable school in teachers of basic education

We present a qualitative investigation about the representations that teachers of basic education have about the school as a sustainable institution. Data collection took place through a questionnaire applied to a group of 32 teachers. In the treatment of these data, the IRaMuTeQ software indicated for textual content analysis was used. We anchor the reflection on Environmental Education theorists and on Social Representations Theory. The results show that the sustainable school is a social representation present among teachers and is strongly associated with ecotechnics, which are proposed to change school physical spaces aiming at a better relationship with the environment, but also refers to a collaborative, multidisciplinary and dialogic educational practice that can reconfigure the curriculum, and the integration of the school into the community, through participative and democratic management.
