Resumo: | This study aims at identifying and analyzing the different types of oral corrective feedback given by two English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers to their basic level adult groups in an English school from Rio de Janeiro that follows the communicative approach. Besides, the utterances produced by students after having received the feedback, known in Second Language Acquisition as uptake , will be also analyzed. In this study, four lessons were recorded, being two lessons from each teacher, and, after that, the teachers were interviewed so that we would be able to check their beliefs regarding oral error correction in the classroom. A questionnaire was answered by the students to allow us to identify their opinions about error correction. The interactions in the classroom and the different types of corrective feedback used by the teachers were analyzed using a model developed by Lyster and Ranta (1997). The results showed a preference in the use of recast by both teachers, even though this type of corrective feedback was not the most efficient one. Besides, we noticed that the efficiency of a certain type of corrective feedback depends on the type of error. This study is based on Vygotsky s Socio- interacionist Theory (1978) and on studies about focus on form (LYSTER; RANTA, 1997; LONG, 1983, 1998; DOUGHTY; VARELLA, 1998; SPADA, 1997, 2006; SPADA; LIGHTBOWN, 2008; BATTISTELLA; LIMA, 2017; ELLIS, 2002, 2006; NASSAJI; SWAIN, 2000) |

Besides, we noticed that the efficiency of a certain type of corrective feedback depends on the type of error. Tal pesquisa baseia-se na Teoria Sociointeracionista de Vygotsky (1978) e nos estudos do Foco na Forma (LYSTER; RANTA, 1997; LONG, 1983, 1998; DOUGHTY; VARELLA, 1998; SPADA, 1997, 2006; SPADA; LIGHTBOWN, 2008; BATTISTELLA; LIMA, 2017; ELLIS, 2002, 2006; NASSAJI; SWAIN, 2000)Submitted by Boris Flegr (boris@uerj.br) on 2021-01-05T15:01:36Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Flavia Elisa Cardoso de Souza_dissertacao.pdf: 810020 bytes, checksum: 6c97b8f0d014a49fe0e6a4576add8123 (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2021-01-05T15:01:36Z (GMT).
