Resumo: In this research, I ponder about Youth and Adult Education, in its nuances and learning expectations. I justify that there is a complex educational scenario, in which students arrive at school with formal expectations of reading and writing. The school expects students to learn this reading and writing as well. However, what I follow in practice is, in many cases, some knot in this process, in which students do not see themselves attended to in their learning and the school does not see itself being attended to in its teaching objectives provided for in the canon of the school curriculum. Thus, the main objective of the research is to understand the reading and writing expectations of EJA students. For this, I seek to understand what EJA is, to understand what their experiences with reading/writing are and what they expect from the school in this process of building their readings and writings. For this purpose, in the methodology of this research, which is qualitative, I use strategies such as participant observation, conversations with students, field diary, dynamics carried out with students of Youth and Adult Education. In addition, I understand this research work as my field of writing. From this, the theoretical framework involves authors such as Conceição Evaristo, Nilda Alves, Nilma Lino Gomes, Paulo Freire, bell hooks, Silvio Almeida, Kabenguele Munanga, and others, who help me to understand the relationships that are woven in EJA, since the main profile of Youth and Adult Education is to be a teaching modality aimed at those who did not have the possibility at the age considered "ideal". Therefore, the EJA audience covers the economically poorer population, has a strong racial profile, many enrollments of women, students, who, according to the school, present "difficulties" in their learning process and who, from a very early age, are linked to the world of work. Thus, the research goes through three chapters that allow me to bring up the analysis of school situations about the expectations of reading and writing for these students.

Justifico que há um complexo cenário educacional, no qual estudantes chegam à escola com expectativas formais de leitura e escrita. A escola espera das(os) discentes o aprendizado também formal desta leitura e escrita. Contudo, o que acompanho na prática é, em muitos casos, algum nó nesse processo, em que as(os) alunas(os) não se veem atendidas(os) em seu aprendizado e a escola não se vê sendo atendida em seus objetivos de ensino previsto no cânone do currículo escolar. Deste modo, o objetivo principal da pesquisa é compreender as expectativas de leitura e escrita das(os) estudantes da EJA. Para isto, busco entender quem é a EJA, compreender quais são suas experiências com leitura/escrita e o que esperam da escola nesse processo de construção das suas leituras e escritas. Para tanto, na metodologia desta pesquisa, que é qualitativa, me utilizo de estratégias, como a observação participante, as conversas com as(os) alunas(os), o diário de campo, dinâmicas realizadas com as(os) estudantes da Educação de Jovens e Adultos. Além disso, compreendo este trabalho de pesquisa como meu campo de escrevivências. A partir disto, o referencial teórico envolve autoras(es) como, Conceição Evaristo, Nilda Alves, Nilma Lino Gomes, Paulo Freire, bell hooks, Silvio Almeida, Kabenguele Munanga, entre outras(os), que me ajudam a compreender as relações que se tecem na EJA, uma vez que o principal perfil da Educação de Jovens e Adultos é ser uma modalidade de ensino destinada a quem não teve possibilidade na idade tida como “própria”. Logo, o público da EJA abrange a população economicamente mais pobre, apresenta um forte recorte racial, grande número de matrículas de mulheres, estudantes, que segundo a escola, são tidos com “dificuldades” em seu processo de aprendizado e ligados desde muito cedo ao mundo do trabalho.
