Resumo: Practices aimed at the deinstitutionalization process are still very recent in Brazil and are still developing. The purpose of this writing is to reflect on how laboring in the contemporary society can be a possible complication in this process. The importance of the issue is due to the fact that it is influenced by our work that we organize much of our lives and build our subjectivity, making us think that the labor sphere can influence the process of deinstitutionalization since patients, families and professionals are immersed in the contemporary working methods. Discussions raised are the result of a literature review on research bases Scielo, LILACS, Capes and BVS, using the keywords “deinstitutionalization” and “family.” (desinstitucionalização and família in portuguese). The thematic “work” is supported by authors such as Antunes (2003; 2015), Dejours (2004; 2010), Ehrenberg (2010), Lipovetsky (2007). From the reflections raised by theoreticians of Mental Health and critic streams of Social Work Psychology, this critical essay led us to considerations that link labor, in current form, as a complicator for the deinstitutionalization process. Also, the objective and subjective burdens resulting from the complexity of this process are taken in account.

Also, the objective and subjective burdens resulting from the complexity of this process are taken in account.
