The Crossroads of Memory: When Public Art Overthrows the Monuments of Military Dictatorships

This text is an interview, unpublished and in its entirety, carried out by the Aparecidos Políticos, from Fortaleza-CE, with the Grupo de Arte Callejero (GAC), from Argentina, in 2020. Both groups work in the relationship between art and politics, asking questions about the maintenance of the memory of military dictatorships in public spaces in their cities. As a methodology, we conducted the interview remotely, then transcribed the material, translated it and edited it into the format of this publication. Finally, the GAC is an internationally recognized group with participation in two Venice Biennials, exhibitions in Germany, London, Spain, Canada, Brazil, with a relevant contribution to the field of public art that is increasingly called to occupy spaces of dispute.
