The humanization of the service in the current health care environment: a reflexion

This study is a review of the literature to find intrinsic aspects in the process of humanization, as well as the attitude of health workers in the face of humanized care. The results showed that the issue of humanization in health care has become relevant in the current setting, since care based on principles, such as holistic care, equity, social participation of the patient, among others, demand a review of routine health practices. Working conditions, low salaries, the difficulty to reconcile family and professional life, working two or three shifts, bringing an overload of activities and exhaustion, constant contact with people under tension, generate an unfavorable environment for humanized care. And then there is the lack of an adequate environment, human resources, quantitative and qualitative materials, appropriate remuneration, and motivation for work. Changing a culture is very complex, mainly with regard to humanization, since this involves subjective factors, such as sensibility and giving of oneself. Therefore, to establish humanized care, it is essential to begin the discussion of this theme during the training of health workers, so as to prepare them for a performance based on values, which care for the essential aspects of being human, demonstrating, through their own attitudes, that treating others with equity and as human beings with rights, a background and expectations, is to truly humanize.
