Resumo: The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic imposed the need for adjustments in higher education, including the adoption of emergency remote education. In this scenario, students and teachers had to adapt to this new way of teaching and learning. The general aim of this study was to analyze the perception of undergraduate nursing students about remote learning during the Covid-19 pandemic, considering the role of professors. Therefore, a mixed-method study was carried out with 30 undergraduate nursing students from a public educational institution in the state of Mato Grosso. Data were collected through the application of an online questionnaire with 26 closed and 3 open questions, analyzed using descriptive statistics and organized into three thematic categories. The results showed that students favored the flexibility of theoretical classes through remote teaching; however, they deemed the experience as unsatisfactory. The main difficulties pointed out were: lack of private space for studying at home; sharing home with others; time management between study and housework; need to work; internet dependency; difficulty concentrating; lack of interaction with teachers; synchronous class schedules; study planning; lack of motivation; tiredness due to other activities and illness/grief of family members. Despite this, some factors were identified as positive, including the possibility of resuming classes amidst the pandemic and less damage to majoring time, better management of working time in regard to classes and unlimited access to recorded classes. As for the role of teachers, despite many showing interest in favoring the teaching-learning process, students in general reported that they seemed to have difficulties in understanding the new teaching dynamics, the use of the virtual platform and digital and didactic resources. In addition, most reported difficulty in understanding and developing the activities requested by teachers. Nonetheless, it could be concluded that the remote classes for the undergraduate nursing major should stick to theoretical content and strictly during the pandemic period, since the major does not have characteristics that enable distance learning due to the need for human contact and the development of manual skills. Furthermore, the need for the institution to offer teachers some form of training and subsidies was evidenced so that they can improve their pedagogical strategies.

Furthermore, the need for the institution to offer teachers some form of training and subsidies was evidenced so that they can improve their pedagogical strategies.
