Resumo: This text analyzes the issue of school democracy. It is assumed that democracy at school is a necessity for an emancipatory human formation and that democracy at school is linked to democracy in the society of which it is a part. It discusses the proximity of Paulo Freire's thought with other current authors who have dealt with this theme. It appears that there are many similarities between the conception of a democratic society in Freire and in other authors, a fundamental aspect for the understanding of the contemporary scenario and also of school democracy and its challenges.

Se asume que la construcción de la democracia en la escuela se amalgama con la democratización de la sociedad de la que forma parte. Paulo Freire es elegido como autor de referencia y tiene como objetivo localizar a otros autores actuales que han abordado este tema. Parece que existen muchas similitudes entre la concepción de sociedad democrática en Freire y en otros autores, aspecto fundamental para la comprensión del escenario contemporáneo y también de la democracia escolar y sus desafíos.Este texto analisa a acepção freiriana de democracia radical e substantiva como premissa fulcral para uma formação humana emancipatória. Tem-se como pressuposto que a construção da democracia na escola está amalgamada à democratização da sociedade da qual faz parte. Elege-se Paulo Freire como autor de referência e localiza-se outros autores da atualidade que têm tratado deste tema.
