Defesa : Curitiba, 20/11/2020Inclui referências: p. 226-237Área de concentração: Estudos LiteráriosResumo: Este trabalho se propõe a traçar um panorama acerca dos estudos (neo)(pós) (de)coloniais, ao contextualizar a produção do escritor queniano Ng?g? wa Thiong'o e oferecer traduções comentadas de duas de suas obras. A proposta se beneficia de um leque compreensivo de teóricos de diferentes continentes (BASSNETT; TRIVEDI, 2002; FANON, 2013; 2008; MIGNOLO; WALSH, 2018; NORD, 2016; TYMOCZKO, 2010a; 2010b; 2002; 1999; WILLIAMS, 1987, e outros), ainda que esteja centrada na produção crítica em língua inglesa de expressão africana (AMOKO, 2010; GIKANDI, 1992; KUNENE, 1992). Tais referências informam tanto as contextualizações das produções quanto as traduções de um ensaio político ? Globalectics, (2012) ? e do primeiro romance ? Weep Not, Child (2015 [1964]) de Thiong'o. As obras foram escolhidas por se considerar que o referido romance antecipa em certa medida a temática explorada no ensaio, e por ambas deixarem antever o trabalho e a postura político-linguística do autor em relação ao seu país e à cultura quicuio. Essa compreensão se encontra delineada de forma didática no ensaio, e pode ser justificada com o projeto de tradução (NORD, 2016) desenvolvido e com pressupostos dos estudos da tradução (VENUTI, 2002), como os que foram selecionados para nortear o trabalho. Ainda, considera-se que a mudança de um espaço geográfico para outro que é tornado lugar (TUAN, 2013; 2012) por parte do escritor se fez necessária para o desenvolvimento da tese de ética global e de valorização do que é único, e possibilita a revisitação da produção literária do autor em língua inglesa, além de justificar sua mais recente produção em quicuio. Entende-se que, nessa reterritorialização da escrita, a autotradução (BANDÍN, 2003; GENTZLER, 1993; WHYTE, 2002) foi o procedimento adotado pelo autor, e que caracterizá-lo como escritor pós-colonial, por exemplo, é uma fórmula reducionista, justamente porque a perspectiva de sua produção antevê o global. Ainda, as traduções de ambas as obras do escritor queniano, que são parte integrante desta tese, foram editadas e revistas de acordo com parâmetros de revisão para traduções (MELLINGER, 2018; MOSSOP, 2010), e encontram-se nos anexos por conta do volume de páginas. Palavras-chave: (neo)(pós)(de)colonial; tradução; ensaio; romance; Ng?g? wa Thiong'o.Abstract: This work aims to provide an overview of (neo)(post)(de)colonial studies, by contextualizing the production of Kenyan author Ng?g? wa Thiong'o and offering commented translations of two of his works. The proposal benefits from a comprehensive range of theorists from different continents (BASSNETT; TRIVEDI, 2002; FANON, 2013; 2008; MIGNOLO; WALSH, 2018; NORD, 2016; TYMOCZKO, 2010a; 2010b; 2002; 1999; WILLIAMS, 1987, and others), even though it is centered on the critical production of African expression written in English (AMOKO, 2010; GIKANDI, 1992; KUNENE, 1992). Such references inform both the contextualization of the productions and the translations of a political essay ? Globalectics, (2012) ? and Thiong'o first novel ? Weep Not, Child (2015 [1964]). These works were chosen because it is considered that the referred novel to some extent anticipates the theme explored in the essay, and because the works foresee the political-linguistic stance of the author in relation to his country and the Kikuyu culture. This understanding is outlined in the essay in a didactic manner and can be justified with the translation project (NORD, 2016) developed and with assumptions of translation studies (VENUTI, 2002), such as the ones selected for this work. The change from one geographical space to another that is transformed into a place (TUAN, 2013; 2012) by the author was necessary for the development of a global ethics thesis and the valorization of what is unique, and it makes it possible to revisit the author's literary production in English, in addition to justifying his most recent production in Kikuyu. It is assumed that, in this reterritorialization of writing, selftranslation (BANDÍN, 2003; GENTZLER, 1993; WHYTE, 2002) was the procedure adopted by the author, and characterizing him as a post-colonial writer, for example, is a reductionist formula, precisely because the perspective of his production foresees the global. Moreover, the translations of both works by the Kenyan writer, which are an integral part of this thesis, were edited and revised according to some revision parameters for translations (MELLINGER, 2018; MOSSOP, 2010), and are found in the annexes owing to the page volume.
