Simulação numérica de um escoamento em torno a um corpo de Ahmed empregando uma malha poliédrica

Resumo: The present work consists in a performance validation of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations in a known body: the Ahmed body. Given that results of the flow around this body are found in literature, the results obtained in the present work were compared with other studies. The commercial software STAR-CCM+ was used to run the simulations. The turbulence model chosen was the RANS - SST. The polyhedral (poly) type of mesh was used. The most refined mesh had approximately 5,6 million elements. A study about the quality of the mesh generated and its convergence was made using the GCI (Grid Converge Index) method. The performance comparison was made analyzing the total drag, skin friction and pressure drag and it was considered valid. The coefficients found in the present work had an error smaller than 4% regarding measurements made in the original work related to the Ahmed body
