Resumo: The Ahmed body consists of a reference model (benchmark) used in the automotive industry to validate simulation tools. With complex shapes, cars are very difficult to model while quantifying aerodynamic drag computationally also has its limitations. Thus, the Ahmed body is a simplification of the vehicular geometry being applied to visualization, prediction and understanding of phenomena linked to flows around bodies. The horizontal hydrodynamic tunnel of the Flow Visualization Laboratory of the Faculdade de Engenharia de Ilha Solteira, FEIS-UNESP is used for experimental tests in order to understand and investigate the hydrodynamics of the flow over Ahmed bodies with a focus on the visualization of turbulent wakes. However, the data generated are, in short, qualitative. Therefore, for the flow and its interaction with the surface of the body under study to be correctly obtained and correspond to the real physical phenomenon, it is necessary to validate the computational numerical model, where it is possible to obtain qualitative (visualization) and quantitative data such as force of drag and velocity profiles, for example. Free software in the scope of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) OpenFOAM, as well as the closed software SolidWorks Flow were used for the discretization and numerical solution of the proposed problem, linked to the comparison of the results obtained with those collected in the horizontal hydrodynamic tunnel, as mentioned. The analyzes were performed using numerical methods that include establishing simulation criteria via CFD in order to obtain data and determine the flow pattern around the established body geometries.

Com formas complexas, os carros são muito difíceis de modelar ao mesmo tempo que quantificar o arrasto aerodinâmico computacionalmente também tem suas limitações. Dessa forma o corpo de Ahmed é uma simplificação da geometria veicular sendo aplicado para visualização, previsão e entendimento de fenômenos atrelados a escoamentos ao redor de corpos. O túnel hidrodinâmico horizontal do Laboratório de Visualização de Escoamentos da Faculdade de Engenharia de Ilha Solteira, FEIS-UNESP é utilizado para ensaios experimentais com o propósito de entender e investigar a hidrodinâmica do escoamento sobre corpos de Ahmed com foco na visualização de esteiras turbulentas. Todavia, os dados gerados são em suma, qualitativos. Assim sendo, para que o escoamento e sua interação com a superfície do corpo em estudo sejam obtidos corretamente e corresponda com o fenômeno físico real, é necessário validar o modelo numérico computacional, aonde é possível obter dados qualitativos (visualização) e quantitativos como força de arrasto e perfis de velocidade, por exemplo. O software livre no âmbito da Mecânica dos Fluidos Computacional (Computational Fluid Dynamics, CFD) OpenFOAM, assim como o software fechado SolidWorks Flow foram utilizados para a discretização e solução numérica do problema proposto, atrelado a comparação dos resultados obtidos com aqueles coletados no túnel hidrodinâmico horizontal, conforme mencionado.
