Resumo: This essay begins saying that the contemporary conscience wouldn’t be the same without the presence of sociology – a human science and not only social – which is, in the group of the social sciences, the cognitive science that studies the human condition. Sociology is a multidimensional science, being its history that one of a discipline that cumulates objective knowledge. However, only the ethics of objectivity is not enough to cultivate the human sciences. They will encompass amplitude, as well as theoretical dignity, only if grounded on our moral competence. Finally it states that the continuity of the sociological mode in the modern culture and its current hegemony are justified only if sociology keeps faithful to the principles of rational intention on one hand, and to the humanism on the other, without losing, between them, the space of the social structure of liberty and the human dreams.

La sociología es una ciencia multidimensional, su historia es la de una disciplina que acumula conocimiento objetivo. Pero apenas la ética de la objetividad no basta para cultivar las ciencias humanas, ésas ganarán en alcance así como en dignidad teórica sólo si residen en nuestra competencia moral. En resolución nos dice que, la continuidad del modo sociológico en la cultura moderna y su hegemonía presente se justifican sólo si la sociología mantiene su fidelidad a los principios de la intencionalidad racional, por una parte y del humanismo por otro, sin perder entre ellos el espacio de la estructura social de la libertad y de los sueños humanos.O artigo inicia falando que consciência contemporânea não seria a mesma sem a presença da sociologia – uma ciência humana e não somente social – que é, no conjunto das ciências sociais, a ciência cognitiva que estuda a condição humana. A sociologia é uma ciência multidimensional, sua história é a de uma disciplina que acumula conhecimento objetivo. Porém somente a ética da objetividade não é suficiente para cultivar as ciências humanas; essas incorporarão amplitude, bem como dignidade teórica, apenas se fundamentadas em nossa competência moral.
