Teaching in Child Education: reflections on gender, masculinity and teacher training

Resumo: | The realities of early childhood education in Brazil and in other countries reveal the reduced demand for men to act as teachers in this stage of Basic Education. Perhaps this fact stems from the fact that research involving male teaching in this area is also scarce. In this context, this study, fruit of research and educational experiences with young children, aims to reflect on the participation of men in the role of teachers in Early Childhood Education, taking as a reference the categories of gender and masculinities, the training of teachers in the Pedagogy course at the public university of Campina Grande-PB and the experience of one of the authors with children of 4 and 5 years old. Theoretically, the work is supported by research related to gender, masculinities, childhood and teacher education and training. Starting from the reports of some experiences and articulating them to the pertinent theory, the debate on the ideas contained in this text promotes the theoretical reflections and ways of acting in order to overcome discriminatory attitudes regarding the teaching of men in early childhood education. |

Talvez decorra daí o fato de também serem escassas as pesquisas que envolvem a docência masculina nesse âmbito. Nesse contexto, este estudo, fruto de experiências de pesquisas e de vivências educativas com crianças pequenas, tem por objetivo refletir sobre a participação dos homens na função de docentes na Educação Infantil, tomando por referência as categorias de gênero e masculinidades, a formação de professores/as no curso de Pedagogia de uma universidade pública de Campina Grande-PB e a experiência de um dos autores com crianças de 4 e 5 anos de idade. Teoricamente, o trabalho está subsidiado por pesquisas relativas à questão de gênero, masculinidades, infâncias e formação de professores/as.
