Resumo: | This paper addresses the treatment of non-binary language in current audiovisual products and their translation. To do so, we will start from Derrida's concept of hospitality and its application to Translation Studies in order to understand the configuration of non-binary identities as a discursive contradiction. In the paradox described by Derrida, we assume that in order to accept and receive the Other we have to read it in its strangeness, as something different. We will apply this theoretical apparatus to the use of non-binary language in audiovisual products in order to study how translation becomes a space for reflection in which to analyze the construction of gender identities that do not fit into the prevailing binary paradigm. We will present some examples to observe the way in which audiovisual rewritings reveal or, on the contrary, hide new manifestations of gender on television. |
