Portuguese language textbook: Where does grammar fit in the kingdom of text?

Resumo: This article investigates the approach to grammatical knowledge in a Portuguese Language textbook designed for High School education and produced in accordance with the theoretical and methodological guidelines of the Brazilian National Common Core Curriculum. To this end, the study, situated in the field of Applied Linguistics, indicates both similarities and differences between the didactic proposal of the material with, on one hand, the epistemological guidelines of traditional grammar (cf. Vieira, 2020), and on the other hand, the pedagogical principles of the social discursive tradition (cf. Gueiros, 2019). The corpus of the work consists of the presentation of the book to the student and the teacher's manual, expository-argumentative sections in which the authors, in addition to summarizing the proposed curricular organization, explain the motivations and theoretical concepts that underlie it. The research has revealed a marginalization of traditional grammar among the teaching objects presented in the investigated book. The treatment of the few morphosyntactic phenomena mentioned by the authors seems to be always subordinate to the analysis of the textual and discursive macrostructure of the language, resulting in an unsystematic set of contents that are epistemologically disconnected from the conceptual and categorical network that links the knowledge of the grammatical tradition.

Para tanto, o estudo, situado no campo da Linguística Aplicada, indica haver aproximações e distanciamentos da proposta didática do material com, de um lado, as diretrizes epistemológicas da gramática tradicional (cf. Vieira, 2020) e, de outro, os princípios pedagógicos da tradição sociodiscursiva (cf. Gueiros, 2019). Compõem o corpus do trabalho a apresentação da obra ao aluno e o manual do professor, seções de caráter expositivo-argumentativo em que os autores, além de sintetizarem a organização curricular proposta, explicitam as motivações e as concepções teóricas que a embasam. A pesquisa evidenciou um apagamento da gramática tradicional nos objetos de ensino que constam na obra investigada.
