Resumo: | This study presents some theoretical-conceptual contributions by Paulo Freire to think about the legitimacy of Physical Education at school as a component of the expanded human formation of people of every age who attend school. It proposes to analyze the issue of the legitimacy of Physical Education at school based on Freire's theoretical-conceptual contribution. The work's guiding question is to investigate how this contribution helps the development of emancipatory pedagogical practices in Physical Education at school. Methodologically, it is a theoretical essay with a reflective orientation based on studies by Paulo Freire and the field of Brazilian Physical Education. In terms of notes, the writing suggests that it is possible to think about the collaborations of this educator, at the same time, the challenges of the present time for school Physical Education in ontological, epistemological, and ethical-political dimensions. |

Propõe-se analisar a problemática da legitimidade da Educação Física na escola, a partir do aporte teórico-conceitual freireano. O trabalho tem como questão suleadora analisar as contribuições que esse aporte apresenta para o desenvolvimento de práticas pedagógicas emancipatórias na Educação Física escolar. Metodologicamente, trata-se de um ensaio teórico de orientação reflexiva, pautado em estudos de Paulo Freire e do campo da Educação Física brasileira.
