Resumo: The experiment was realized in commercial field of cultivar Catuaí Vermelho IAC 144 using drip irrigation and non irrigated condition in Viçosa Minas Gerais from December 2000 up to June 2006. The objective of the experiment was to evaluate the different strategies of fungicide application systems and protectors for the control of leaf rust and productivity of coffee. The fungicide cooper oxychloride and calda Viçosa (mixture of cooper sulphate + nutrients) were applied during December until march, while the systemic fungicide epoxiconazole was applied in December and March following the sampling scheme (the application determined from the observation of the values of 5 and 10 % incidence of coffee leaf rust). The treatment with fungicide + systemic insecticide (cyproconazole + thiamethoxan) granule was applied annually in the soil with out complementation of foliar application, in alternate years complemented with four foliar application of calda Viçosa . To supplement the drip irrigation was realized during the period of July up to November of every year based on the direct measure of the water balance in the soil. The result obtained showed that drip irrigation did not change the progress of standard curve of leaf rust of coffee and proportionally increased productivity up to 17 %. The application of fungicide to control the leaf rust of coffee proportionally increased 38 and 32 % of productivity in relation to the control treatment for irrigated and none irrigated plants, respectively. The treatment with cooper oxychloride and calda Viçosa showed higher leaf rust intensity in plants in relation to treatments with systemic fungicide, but maintain stable productivity of coffee during five seasons evaluated. The application of systemic fungicide epoxiconazole based on the observation of 5 % incidence of leaf rust control more efficiently the disease in relation to application started after verification of 10 % incidence, but the productivity only showed difference with irrigated experiment. The response from the application of fungicide based on the calendar of epoxiconazole was similar to the treatments applied with 5 % incidence of leaf rust. The treatment include the annual application of cyproconazole + thiamethoxan granule presented more leaf rust intensity in plants in relation to treatments where the application was done in alternate years and complemented with foliar application of fungicide calda Viçosa . The mean productivity obtained in these treatments during five years evaluation was not differed from mean of plants treated with cooper fungicide. According to these results it can be affirmed that the fungicide cooper oxychloride or calda Viçosa can be used in the program of integrated leaf rust management and its cost was lower than the systemic fungicide. In addition it provides economical, ecological and social sustainability of coffee production in the region of Zona de Mata Minas Gerais.

In addition it provides economical, ecological and social sustainability of coffee production in the region of Zona de Mata Minas Gerais.
