Resumo: We present an interview with Safa Alferd Abou Chahla Jubran, professor, researcher and translator, whose repertoire of translations from Arabic to Portuguese includes works by award-winning authors such as: Youssef Ziedan, Gamal Ghitany, Alaa Al Aswany, Elias Khoury, Naguib Mahfouz and Tayeb Salih. From Portuguese to Arabic, Safa translated works and texts by Martha Batalha, Milton Hatoum, Salim Miguel, Marcelo Maluf, as well as poems by Michel Sleiman and Marco Lucchesi. The interview was given to us by e-mail in October 2019 and it addresses issues intertwined with the translation from Arabic to Portuguese. Safa also told us about her academic experiences and about her theoretical position concerning translating. Our goal was to learn a little more about the issues surrounding the translation market for works written in Arabic and their studies in Brazil.
