Security in the use and sharing of data on social networking by high school students

  Abstract ”“Digital media, especially social networks, have transformed society and the way of relating. This research aimed to identify the knowledge of high school students about internet security. As a methodology for data collection, an electronic questionnaire with 85 questions was used. The 217 research participants are high school students from a private school in the interior of São Paulo (Brazil). As a result, it appears that 98% of students use some social networking and the home and school are the places where they use the internet; 71% of students said they had already received images of naked people or having sex; images were accessed mainly through social networking; The subject more searched was "ways to get thin"; 71% of students consider they know more about the internet than their parents. The main conclusion is that given the finding that adolescents have adopted risky behaviors in the use of social networking and have not received proper guidance in this regard, the school has a key role in preparing students to deal safely with the informational universe to which they have daily access, but the school also needs to prepare itself to be able to exercise this role properly.
