Pre-School education and family: a necessary partnership

Resumo: The aim of the research conducted on a public pre-school situated in São Paulo was to identify the nature of the interaction between family and school and how the school can use, in its pedagogical project, the information offered by the family in benefit of the child. The methodology used was action-research combined with observation instruments, individual and collective interviews, document analysis and questionnaires to teachers and parents. The technique of content analysis was used to interpret the obtained data. Among the results, it is emphasized that the family-school relationship, for parents, focuses on the school: it has information on the child, therefore, should clarify doubts and guide them. It has a knowledge that the family does not have and, consequently, it is the authority. This view is recognized by educators. The movement to incorporate into its pedagogical project information from the family, so that it can build and rebuild itself continuously on concrete bases from its social context, still is insufficient.

A metodologia utilizada foi a pesquisa-ação, com instrumentos de observação, entrevista individual e coletiva, análise documental e questionários para professores e pais. Para interpretar os dados obtidos, utilizou-se da técnica de análise de conteúdo. Dentre os resultados, destaca-se que a relação família-instituição de educação infantil, para os pais, centra-se na instituição educacional: é ela que detém informações sobre a criança e, portanto, deve esclarecer dúvidas e orientá-los. É ela detentora de um saber que a família não possui e, como tal, é autoridade. Essa visão é compartilhada pelos educadores.
