An interpretative analysis of the mathematical written production of basic school students

Resumo: The present study analyzes Basic Education students’ written work(4th year Elementary School students, 8th year Middle School students and 3rdyear High School students) on a common question taken from the AVA-2002(Paraná State Large-Scale Assessment-2002). Open-ended Questions Test, toinvestigate their interpretations of information contained in each statement'sphrase, their strategies and procedures. Characterizations of students' writtenworks are discussed, and one was selected for the analysis. Results showed that as more school years they have, more and better relations they do between theinformation in each statement's phrase. The analysis of students’ written work isone alternative to investigate Basic Education students’ knowledge ofMathematics.

The analysis of students’ written work isone alternative to investigate Basic Education students’ knowledge ofMathematics. O presente trabalho, oriundo de pesquisa de natureza qualitativa, apresenta uma análise da produção escrita de alunos da 4ª e 8ª séries do Ensino Fundamental e da 3ª série do Ensino Médio na questão comum da Prova de Questões Abertas de Matemática da AVA–2002. No intuito de investigar o modo como alunos lidam com uma questão aberta (discursiva), foram analisadas 147 provas, na busca das interpretações que fizeram das informações contidas em cada frase do enunciado, das estratégias elaboradas e dos procedimentos utilizados. Por meio dos registros escritos dos alunos foi possível fazer inferências sobre seus modos de interpretar o enunciado da questão, bem como analisar as estratégias elaboradas e os procedimentos utilizados. Em relação à interpretação dos alunos para o enunciado da questão, concluiu-se que, com o aumento da escolaridade, eles fazem mais e melhores relações entre as informações contidas nas frases.
