Resumo: The mathematics' teacher from the Complementary School, attachedto the Normal School of São Paulo, Saverio Cristofaro, published in 1929 hisbook "How to learn Mathematics". On the book's advertisement, The NationalEditor Company – Companhia Editora Nacional - announces that it is the firstwork that contemplates the reform approved by the congregation of the Pedro IISchool in that same year. At the presentation of his book, though it affirms thatthe text is in according to the new reform. The author explains it is the result ofhis personal experiences in fifteen years teaching. In this article, we observe tounderstand the Saverio Cristofaro teacher's position which privileges thepractice in his writing works.

Na divulgação do livro, a Companhia Editora Nacional anunciou que se tratava da primeira obra que contemplava a reforma aprovada pela Congregação do Colégio Pedro II naquele mesmo ano. Na apresentação de seu livro, embora afirme que o texto está de acordo com a nova reforma, o autor esclarece que ele é fruto de suas experiências pessoais de quinze anos no magistério. Neste artigo, buscamos compreender essa postura do professor Saverio Cristofaro de privilegiar a prática na escrita de seus textos.
