Preceptor of dentistry and its role in health professional training: a phenomenological study

Resumo: The role of the Preceptor is reflected in mediating the teaching-learning process and also being responsible for inserting the academic in the social reality of the internship field in the public service. However, the distance between the training university and the Preceptor, has negative effects on the education of dentistry students. Therefore, this research aims to discuss the role of Dentistry preceptorship in the emergency department of a public hospital in the city of São Gonçalo / RJ. This is a qualitative, phenomenological study conducted with 8 dentistry preceptors. The method suggested by Amedeo Giorgi was followed and the data analysis was conducted through interviews in the light of Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology. Two categories emerged in this study: Perception of the preceptor dentist within the healthcare team and The preceptor and the understanding of his role in the formation of the dental student. The university's relationship with the professional preceptor enables the academic to gain a better knowledge of social reality and to train a professional with social involvement and knowledge of the real needs of the population.

Sin embargo, la distancia entre la universidad de formación y el Preceptor tiene efectos negativos en la educación de los estudiantes de odontología. Por lo tanto, esta investigación tiene como objetivo discutir el papel de la preceptoría de Odontología en el departamento de emergencias de un hospital público en la ciudad de São Gonçalo / RJ. Este es un estudio cualitativo, fenomenológico, realizado con 8 preceptores de odontología. Se siguió el método sugerido por Amedeo Giorgi y el análisis de datos se realizó a través de entrevistas a la luz de la fenomenología de Merleau-Ponty. En este estudio surgieron dos categorías: Percepción del dentista preceptor dentro del equipo de atención médica y El preceptor y la comprensión de su papel en la formación del estudiante de odontología. La relación de la universidad con el preceptor profesional permite al académico obtener un mejor conocimiento de la realidad social y capacitar a un profesional con participación social y conocimiento de las necesidades reales de la población.O papel do Preceptor se reflete em mediar o processo de ensino-aprendizagem e ainda, ser responsável por inserir o acadêmico na realidade social do campo de estágio no serviço público. Entretanto, a distância entre a Universidade formadora e o Preceptor, produz efeitos negativos na formação do acadêmico de Odontologia. Sendo assim, esta pesquisa tem por objetivo discutir o papel da preceptoria de Odontologia no serviço de urgência de um hospital público no município de São Gonçalo/RJ. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, fenomenológico, realizado com oito preceptores de Odontologia. Percorreu-se ao método sugerido por Amedeo Giorgi, e a análise dos dados se através de entrevista à luz da fenomenologia de Maurice Merleau-Ponty. Emergiram duas categorias nesse estudo: Percepção do cirurgião-dentista preceptor dentro da equipe de saúde e o preceptor e a compreensão do seu papel na formação do acadêmico de Odontologia.
