Gender, sexuality and diversity at a school: results of a research project developed at Ifnmg, Campus Salinas

Resumo: Gender, sexuality and diversity at school still seem to be distant concepts from reality, leading to situations of exclusion and prejudice in the school environment. Thus, this article aims at identifying and analyzing the teachers’ beliefs and perceptions within the context of the Federal Institute of Northern Minas Gerais, Salinas campus, regarding sexuality and gender issues. In order to do so, we have based on the results of a research project that analyzed the teachers’ conceptions about these concepts at the campus. The methodological approach was held by qualitative and quantitative research. Electronic questionnaires were made available for all teachers of the mentioned campus for data collection. Furthermore, the results showed that most of the teachers do not receive prior orientation to tackle these issues and thus, there is the necessity to build an inclusive and multidimensional pedagogical practice. Hence, we believe the research has contributed to show the importance of the theme as well as identify prejudice and discriminatory practices regarding sexual diversity and gender present in the school environment.

Asimismo, el objetivo de este artículo es identificar y analizar creencias y percepciones de los profesores y de las profesoras del Instituto Federal do Norte de Minas Gerais (IFNMG), Campus Salinas, acerca de las cuestiones de género y sexualidade. Para eso, nos basamos en los resultados de un proyecto de investigación que analizó las concepciones de los docentes de ese campus sobre tales conceptos. El abordaje metodológico fue por medio del análisis cuali-cuantitativo. Para la recolección de datos, fueron aplicados cuestionarios interactivos a todos los docentes del campus referido. En virtud de ello, los resultados evidencian que la mayoría de los docentes no reciben informaciones sobre cómo tratar esas cuestiones, lo que demuestra la necesidad de que se construya una práctica pedagógica incluyente y multidimensional. Luego, ceemos que la investigación ha contribuido tanto para enseñar la importancia de ese tema como para identificar los prejuicios y las prácticas de discriminación respecto a la diversidad sexual y de género que hay en el espacio educativo.Gênero, sexualidade e diversidade na escola ainda são conceitos que parecem distantes da realidade, provocando situações de exclusão e preconceito no ambiente escolar. Assim, o objetivo deste artigo é identificar e analisar crenças e percepções dos professores/as do campus Salinas em relação às questões de gênero e sexualidade. Para isso, baseamo-nos em resultados de um projeto de pesquisa, que analisou as concepções dos docentes do Instituto Federal do Norte de Minas Gerais (IFNMG), campus Salinas, acerca desses conceitos. A abordagem metodológica foi por meio de uma pesquisa quali-quantitativa. Para coleta de dados, foram aplicados questionários eletrônicos a todos os docentes do referido campus. Ademais, os resultados evidenciaram que a maioria dos docentes não recebem orientação sobre como lidar com essas questões, o que demonstra a necessidade de se construir uma prática pedagógica inclusiva e multidimensional.
