Teaching Career in the Viewpoint of Undergraduate Nursing Students

Resumo: To investigate the perception of undergraduate nursing students about the teaching career of higher education at a public university in southern Brazil. This is a qualitative, exploratory-descriptive study consisting of twenty-seven nursing students, enrolled between the first and ninth grades of the course. Data collection took place between May and June 2017, semi-structured interviews were used. The data were analyzed according to the textual discursive analysis. Based on the results obtained, from the data analysis, three categories emerged: Students' perception of the entry and exercise of the teaching career; Teacher's role / duties; and Challenges for exercising the profession with quality. The conclusions indicated that teachers should be aware of the perceptions of nursing students about the teaching career, so that these professionals are able to better meet the needs and expectations of their students, contributing to the strengthening and quality of teaching and learning.

Este es un estudio cualitativo, exploratorio-descriptivo que consta de veintisiete estudiantes de enfermería, matriculados entre los grados primero y noveno del curso. La recopilación de datos tuvo lugar entre mayo y junio de 2017, se utilizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas. Los datos se analizaron de acuerdo con el análisis discursivo textual. Con base en los resultados obtenidos, a partir del análisis de datos, surgieron tres categorías: la percepción de los estudiantes sobre el ingreso y el ejercicio de la carrera docente; Rol / deberes del maestro; y Desafíos para ejercer la profesión con calidad. Las conclusiones indicaron que los maestros deben ser conscientes de las percepciones de los estudiantes de enfermería sobre la carrera docente, para que estos profesionales puedan satisfacer mejor las necesidades y expectativas de sus estudiantes, contribuyendo al fortalecimiento y la calidad de la enseñanza y el aprendizaje.Investigar a percepção dos estudantes de graduação em enfermagem sobre a carreira docente de ensino superior em uma universidade pública do sul do Brasil. Trata-se de estudo qualitativo, exploratório-descritivo constituído por vinte e sete estudantes do curso de enfermagem, matriculados entre a primeira e nona série do curso. A coleta de dados ocorreu entre os meses de maio e junho de 2017, utilizou-se entrevistas semiestruturadas. Os dados foram analisados segundo a análise textual discursiva. Com base nos resultados obtidos, a partir da análise dos dados, emergiram três categorias: Percepção dos alunos sobre o ingresso e exercício da carreira docente; Papel/atribuições do docente; e Desafios para o exercício da profissão com qualidade.
