Resumo: | This article seeks to understand two works and contexts, the Pedagogy of the Oppressed (1968), by philosopher and educator Paulo Freire, and the documentary Santa Cruz (2000), by filmmaker João Moreira Salles and journalist Marcos Sá Corrêa. The first work criticizes traditional education, proposes problematizing education and radical social change. The second shows the daily life of Pentecostal evangelicals in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro during the construction of their small temple. A parallel was drawn between the works and, in the socio-historical contexts, tangents. It is understood that a socio-critical reflection is essential in face of the evangelical growth and its strong impact on politics, education, and Brazilian society. The qualitative-theoretical methodology, based on a historical-anthropological perspective, will guide the discursive-textual construction of this article. Based on the summarized exposition of the works and the selection of key passages, three results are sought: the importance of re-reading Paulo Freire´s ideas to better understand the contemporary world; the critique of romantic-phenomenological approaches; and, finally, the invitation to social transformation based on the Paulo Freire’s critiques of sectarianism and non-critical education. |

La primera obra critica la educación tradicional, propone una educación problematizadora y un cambio social radical. La segunda muestra la vida cotidiana de los evangélicos pentecostales en la Zona Oeste de la ciudad de Río de Janeiro durante la construcción de su pequeño templo. Se elaboró un paralelismo entre las obras y, en los contextos sociohistóricos, las tangentes. Se entiende que una reflexión sociocrítica es esencial ante el crecimiento evangélico y su fuerte impacto en la política, la educación y la sociedad brasileña. La metodología cualitativa-teórica, basada en una perspectiva histórico-antropológica, guiará la construcción discursiva-textual de este artículo. A partir de la exposición resumida de las obras y de la selección de pasajes clave, se buscan tres resultados: la importancia de releer las ideas ‘paulo-freirianas’ para comprender mejor el mundo contemporáneo; la crítica a los planteamientos romántico-fenomenológicos y, por último, la invitación a la transformación social desde la crítica ‘paulo-freiriana’ al sectarismo y a la educación no crítica.Este artigo procura compreender duas obras e contextos, a Pedagogia do Oprimido (1968), do filósofo e educador Paulo Freire, e o filme-documentário Santa Cruz (2000), do cineasta João Moreira Salles e do jornalista Marcos Sá Corrêa. A primeira obra, critica educação tradicional, propõe a educação problematizadora e a mudança social radical. A segunda, mostra o cotidiano de evangélicos pentecostais na Zona Oeste da cidade do Rio de Janeiro durante a construção de seu pequeno templo.
