Resumo: The article presents the first interpretations of the case study accomplished at the Feminine Prison Madre Pelletier, located in Porto Alegre, RS. There a degree course in Social Service is currently taking place, offered by Methodist Academical Center IPA. It shows what the female population is a minority within the prisonal population, which is associated to the woman’s subordination as a common fact among different cultures. The women’s exclusion, as well as the unequal treatment in relation to men, is due to the role attributed to them by the society. The analysis of the stigma as the arrested women’s social identity shows the necessity of inclusion policies that permit the female imprisoned population to overcome, through the access to educational processes, the social roles that stigmatize, subordinate and exclude them.

Edunisc - Universidade de Santa Cruz do Sul2009-11-17info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://online.unisc.br/seer/index.php/redes/article/view/2810.17058/redes.v14i2.28Redes ; Vol. 14 No. 2 (2009); 198-211Redes; Vol. 14 Núm. 2 (2009); 198-211Redes; Vol. 14 No. 2 (2009); 198-211Redes; v. 14 n. 2 (2009); 198-2111982-6745reponame:Redes (Santa Cruz do Sul.
