Resumo: | Relevance theory’s central claim is that our expectations of relevance are precise and predictable enough to guide the listener toward the meaning of the speaker. The goal in this article is to explain in cognitively realistic terms to what such expectations are equivalent, and how they can contribute to an empirically plausible approach to understanding. For such, the main assumptions of the current version of the theory are outlined, and some of their implications are discussed. |

El objeto de este artículo es explicar, en términos cognoscitivamente realísticos, las equivalencias de esas expectativas y cómo ellas pueden contribuir al abordaje empíricamente plausible de comprensión. Para tal propósito, se trazan las principales suposiciones de la versión actual de la teoría y se discuten algunas de sus implicaciones.L’assertion centrale dans la Théorie de la Pertinence est celle dont les attentes de relevance sont précises et suffisamment prévisibles pour guider l’auditeur dans la direction du signifié de celui qui parle. Dans cet article, l’objectif est celui d’expliquer, dans des termes cognitivement réalistiques, à quoi ces attentes équivalent et comment elles peuvent contribuer à un abordage empiriquement plausible de compréhension. Poursuivant ce but, on esquisse les principales suppositions de la version actuelle de la théorie et on en discute quelques-unes de ses implications.A afirmação central da Teoria da Relevância é a de que expectativas de relevância são precisas e previsíveis o suficiente para guiar o ouvinte na direção do significado do falante.
