Analysis of brazilian high school education based on educational indicators

Resumo: This article aims to unveil secondary education from the observation, description and interpretation perspective of the educational reality of Brazilian secondary education based on indicators of students’ school performance (assessments carried out by SAEB); the educational process (passing, failing, dropping out, going back to school, age-grade gap, and proportion of enrolled students according to school age).The research has a quantitative approach and used statistical analysis as a research method. It was concluded that the low level of school performance, pointed out by the SAEB, is a direct and/or indirect consequence of the social and educational economic inequality that mostly affects students from public schools and the ones from more vulnerable families, in a condition of poverty, inequality, and who are marginalized. In addition, it makes the promotion of educational justice unfeasible, as it affects the performance, success and school trajectory of those who graduate from basic education.

In addition, it makes the promotion of educational justice unfeasible, as it affects the performance, success and school trajectory of those who graduate from basic education.  Este artículo tiene como objetivo develar la educación secundaria a partir de la observación, descripción e interpretación de la realidad educativa de la educación secundaria brasileña, a partir de indicadores de desempeño escolar de los estudiantes (evaluaciones realizadas por el SAEB) y del proceso educativo (aprobación, reprobación, deserción, repitencia, brecha edad-grado y proporción de alumnos matriculados según edad escolar). La investigación se caracteriza por ser de enfoque cuantitativo y se utilizó el análisis estadístico como método de investigación. Se concluyó que el bajo nivel de rendimiento escolar señalado por el SAEB es consecuencia directa y/o indirecta de la desigualdad económica social y educativa que afecta, principalmente, a los estudiantes de escuelas públicas y estudiantes de familias más vulnerables, en condiciones de pobreza, desigualdad y marginación. Además, inviabiliza la promoción de la justicia educativa, ya que afecta el desempeño, el éxito y la trayectoria escolar de quienes finalizan la educación básica.  Este artigo tem como objetivo desvelar o ensino médio a partir da observação, descrição e interpretação da realidade educacional do ensino médio brasileiro, tendo como base os indicadores do desempenho escolar dos alunos (avaliações realizadas pelo SAEB) e do processo educacional (aprovação, reprovação, abandono, repetência, defasagem idade-série e proporção dos alunos matriculados de acordo com a idade escolar). A pesquisa caracteriza-se como de abordagem quantitativa e utilizou a análise estatística como método de investigação. Concluiu-se que o baixo nível de desempenho escolar apontado pelo SAEB é consequência direta e/ou indireta da desigualdade econômica social e educacional que afeta, principalmente, os estudantes das escolas públicas e alunos oriundos de famílias mais vulneráveis, em condição de pobreza, desigualdade e marginalizados.
