Resumo: This study has as main purpose to disseminate a previously unedited piece of translation by José Feliciano de Castilho from an excerpt of a chant in Lucan's Pharsalia. The researcher had seven sheets of a manuscript dated back to 1860 (referring to the verses 1.1-94 of the text in Latin), which are available in the room of rare books at the library of Faculdade de Ciências e Letras (FCL), campus of Araraquara. This resarch brings a service translation, made by the reasercher, as well as a diplomatic edition of the manuscript and an updated edition. Eventually, the reasercher's work concentrated on analyzing the translation by José Feliciano de Castilho, departing from a manuscript of his from Pharsalia, yet unedited. This study counted on four elementary steps, as it follows: diplomatic transcription of Castilho's manuscript; service translation based on the original masterpiece, also possibly used by the translator; elaboration of an updated edition, bringing to knowledge explative notes on culture and Roman and Greek mythology and, for last, an analytical comparison between the translations by Castilho and the one developed in the research

O pesquisador teve como corpus do trabalho sete folhas de um manuscrito datado de 1860 e que se encontra na sala de obras raras da faculdade de ciências e letras, câmpus de Araraquara. A pesquisa traz uma tradução de serviço, feita pelo pesquisador, assim como uma edição diplomática desse manuscrito e uma edição atualizada. O trabalho do pesquisador se concentrou, por fim, em analisar e comparar as traduções afim compreender a tradição clássica do tradutor José Feliciano de Castilho em relação ao serviço de tradução de obras poéticas.
