The research objective was to verify the interaction between the relational capabilities, inter organizational trust, and diversity of the alliance portfolio in the passenger air transport industry. With a process design having positivism as a philosophy of science, empirical research was developed by studying twelve alliances that make up the portfolio of a focal airline's alliances. The alliances were analyzed based on semi-structured discoveries with alliance managers at partner airlines. The characteristics script was structured based on the literature review. The identifications were transcribed, and the data were propagated using categorical thematic content analysis. From four categories defined a priori, based on the theoretical framework, twenty-three interactions were identified between eighteen sub categories, which emerged during data analysis, generating you, not definitive, proposals for comparison between the constructs of interest. Crosswise, the constructs' performance of the alliance and interpersonal trust was found to permeate the constructs under study. The thesis's findings contribute to the theory of alliances, an event that shareholding influences relational capabilities; integration of the focal company into multilateral alliances; the process of building inter-organizational trust; and the performance of alliances. As for the theory of inter-organizational conflict, it contributes by highlighting shareholding participation as a political tactic. From the management point of view, it contributes by highlighting the alliance manager's role and the importance of his social skills, including conflict resolution skills. For public policies, the thesis contributes by highlighting the importance of a system of incentives for structuring and strengthening hubs (source centers) that have the relevant economic and social role for the regions in which they are located, which will require new regulations on the part of regulatory bodies
