Performance Assessment of Teachers of Higher Education Institutions: the case of Cearense College

Resumo: The paper reports the results of the evaluation of the performance of teachers at a Higher Education Institution in four pedagogical dimensions: planning and management of teaching, teaching employed in the development of teaching, communication and interaction with students, forms and use of the results from the assessment of student learning. With this purpose we elaborated a set of questions on the four dimensions mentioned above, which was later pre-tested (semantic analysis and metric analysis). The factorial structure revealed it to be a one-factor measure instrument (factor extracted explains about 27% of the total variance, with loads of 0.35 minimum of the 23 items in that factor), including with high internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.88). Therefore, the IES has, from now on, a valid and reliable tool to evaluate their teachers, thus allowing for accurate diagnoses in the four pedagogic categories considered.

Para ello, se elaboraron cuestiones que fueron sometidas a un analisis cualitativo (validez semantica) y cuantitativo (pretest con una muestra de 220 alumnos). Posteriormente, con una muestra de 732 alumnos se determinaron la validez factorial del nuevo instrumento de 23 items (un factor explicando el 27% de la varianza total de los escores, con cargas factoriales de los items de valor minimo de 0,35) y la consistencia interna (Alpha de Cronbach = 0,88). Por lo tanto, la IES cuenta, a partir de ahora, con un instrumento pedagogico valido y fidedigno para evaluar a sus profesores, lo que permite, de ese modo, diagnosticos precisos en las cuatro categorias pedagogicas consideradas.O trabalho relata os resultados da avaliação da atuação dos docentes de uma Instituicao de Ensino Superior (IES) em quatro dimensoes pedagogicas: planejamento e gestao das atividades de ensino; didatica empregada no desenvolvimento das atividades de ensino; comunicação e interação com os alunos; formas e uso dos resultados oriundos da avaliação do aprendizado discente. Com esse objetivo elaborou-se um conjunto de perguntas versando sobre as quatro dimensoes ja mencionadas, que foi, posteriormente, pre-testado (analise semântica e analise metrica). A estrutura fatorial revelou tratar-se de um instrumento de medida unifatorial (fator extraido explica cerca de 27% da variância total, com cargas minimas de 0,35 dos 23 itens no referido fator), contando com elevada consistencia interna (alpha de Cronbach = 0,88).
