Resumo: This work addresses quality’s concepts and dimensions of higher education, taking as a basis documents of UNESCO and OCDE, that recommend policies to this level of education. The first section presents quality settings summarizing what has been produced on the subject in the literature. In the second part are examined documents produced by UNESCO in the Regional Conference on Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (2008) and the World Conference on Higher Education (2009), besides the conference of OCDE so-called The Higher Education in Knowledge Society (2008). This analysis aimed to identify concerns with the quality of higher education. The documents recommend joint of policies that strengthen social commitment of education in order to ensure higher education with quality, incorporated as a reference, ie, a process committed with the universality of knowledge, values andcultural diversity, the sustainable development, ethics and justice.

Na primeira seção, apresenta definições de qualidade sintetizando o que vem sendo produzido acerca do tema pela literatura da área. Na segunda parte, são examinados documentos produzidos pela UNESCO na Conferência Regional de Educação Superior na América Latina e no Caribe (2008) e na Conferência Mundial sobre Ensino Superior (2009), além da Conferência da OCDE denominada O Ensino Superior na Sociedade do Conhecimento (2008). Esta análise teve por finalidade identificar preocupações com a qualidade da educação superior.
