No final do 3ºciclo do ensino básico os estudantes devem efetuar uma escolha relativamente ao seu percurso educativo a qual tem um impacto significativo no seu percurso de carreira, este estudo foi efetuado com recurso a uma amostra de 240 estudantes do 3ºciclo (7º, 8º e 9º anos), pertende compreender as expetativas de futuro destes jovens recorrendo à escala de Perspetiva Temporal de Futuro (adaptação portuguesa de Future Time Perspective Scale de Stouthard & Peetsma, 1999), relacionando-as com algumas dimensões nucleares dos padrões adaptativos de aprendizagem (adaptação portuguesa da Patterns of Adaptive Learning Scales de Migley et. al, 2000) e com a perceção social e de bem-estar associado aos seus contextos de socialização primária (adaptação portuguesa da escala original de Peetsma et. al, 2002).Os resultados sugerem que existe uma relação significativa entre diversos fatores que contribuem para a manutenção dos padrões adaptativos de aprendizagem e os diferentes domínios e extensões da PTF se encontram correlacionados positivamente. A perspetiva temporal de futuro a longo prazo revelou ser um preditor significativo da autoeficácia académica e os estudantes provenientes do meio urbano, que frequentam atividades de tempos livres, que nunca ficaram retidos, que pretendem frequentam o ensino superior e já pensaram no seu futuro profissional, têm em geral, uma maior orientação para o futuro, quer imediato, quer longínquo.In Portugal the government stipulates that school is mandatory until the 12th grade or until you reach the age of majority (18 years). When students transition from 9th grade to high school, they have to make a choice about their educational path that will restrict and define their career path.
