Building curriculum for the arts is always an arduous task based on political issues; educational, cultural and theoretical principles on the field of art education and pedagogical existing practices. However the official curriculum is nothing more than a list of contents and prescriptions for teaching practice based on beliefs about what knowledge students need to learn and what skills they need to acquire. The real curriculum is done by teachers and by students interacting with their social environment. We must bear into our minds that curriculum is always a pathway, a journey subject to environmental impacts. So, when designing art education curriculum one should take into account the local realities, because the arts are great resources for learning in both global and local cultures and through the arts we can develop education for sustainability, helping the students to understand their role and responsibility in their society. In this text we will question these concerns in the context of regional curriculum integrating art education learning projects.
