Institutional relations and film programming: the case of Centro Cultural São Paulo and Cinemateca Brasileira between 1982 and 1985

Resumo: In the present article, we seek to approach how the film programming of the cinema theater Lima Barreto, at Centro Cultural São Paulo, in its first three years (1982-1985), reflects the existing institutional relations between the Fundação Cinemateca Brasileira and the Municipality of São Paulo, through then newly created Municipal Department of Culture. In this fashion, we intend to outline a better understanding of why the Cinemateca was, in an initial moment, so involved with the cultural center's film programming, though it soon distanced itself from the latter. We are also interested in analysing the content of this programming and the cultural context involving the cinematographic exhibition circuit at that time in the city of São Paulo, in order to try to understand the paths taken by the film programming sector of the Centro Cultural, beginning with its distancing from the Cinemateca Brasileira.

De esta manera, pretendemos esbozar una mejor comprensión de por qué la Cinemateca estuvo, en un primer período, en el que estuvo muy involucrada con la programación del centro cultural, pero que pronto terminó alejándose. También nos interesa tratar aquí el contenido de este programa y el contexto cultural que rodeaba el circuito de exhibición cinematográfica de la época en la ciudad de São Paulo, a fin de comprender los caminos recorridos por el sector de la programación cinematográfica del Centro Cultural, desde su distancia de la Cinemateca Brasileira.No presente artigo, procuramos abordar de que maneira a programação da sala de cinema Lima Barreto, no Centro Cultural São Paulo, em seus três primeiros anos (1982-1985), reflete as relações institucionais existentes entre a Fundação Cinemateca Brasileira e a Prefeitura de São Paulo, por meio da então recém-criada Secretaria Municipal de Cultura. Dessa maneira, pretendemos esboçar uma melhor compreensão sobre por que a Cinemateca esteve, num primeiro período, tão envolvida com a programação do centro cultural, mas logo acabou se afastando.
