THE DEBATE OVER INTEGRAL EDUCATION IN THE RECENT ACADEMIC RESEARCH: DEMOCRATIZATION OF EDUCATION OR WELFARE IN EDUCATION?

Resumo: This paper presents partial results of academic literature review on integral education since 2007, starting year of the federal government program “Mais Educação”. The texts portray different contexts of space, culture, social and economic reality, having in common the ideas that the student's stay in school forms the basis of an education with greater opportunities for building knowledge and autonomy, by fully watching their basic educational and complementary needs. However, there are also critics on the weaknesses of these experiences which neutralize the achievement of specific objectives present in different proposals for educational policies aimed at integral education. In the set of texts there are perspectives that understand the integral education as a process of democratization of education and quality improvement, as well as a welfare public policy aiming to repair historical, social and economic inequalities.

Os textos retratam distintos contextos de espaço, cultura, realidade social e econômica, tendo, em comum, o ideário de que a permanência do educando na escola constitui a base de uma educação com maiores oportunidades de formação de conhecimento e autonomia, assistindo-o integralmente em suas necessidades básicas educacionais e complementares. Contudo, observam-se também críticas às fragilidades destas experiências que neutralizam o cumprimento de objetivos pontuais, presentes em diferentes propostas de políticas educacionais voltadas à educação integral.
