At last, what is Early Childhood Education for?

Resumo: This article celebrating the 25th anniversary of Revista Olhar de Professor take up the article “Education for children and the 9-year-old elementary school”, published in this journal in 2009, in order to discuss what happened with Early Childhood Education in the last 14 years. We seek to analyze some public policies implemented, as well as the advances and setbacks in relation to the education of children in creches and preschools. We point out the contemporary problems of Early Childhood Education, trying to show how children have been captured by knowledge and power, attributing an essence to them and depoliticizing Early Childhood Education. At the end of the article, we try to answer the question: After all, what is Early Childhood Education for?

Buscamos analizar algunas políticas públicas implementadas, así como avances y retrocesos de la educación de los niños en jardines infantiles y preescolas. Señalamos problemas contemporáneos de la Educación Infantil, buscando mostrar la forma en que el niño ha sido captado por saberes y poderes, atribuyéndole una esencia y despolitizando la educación infantil. Al final de artículo buscamos dar respuesta a la pregunta: Al fin y al cabo, ¿para qué sirve la Educación Infantil?Este artigo em comemoração aos 25 anos da Revista Olhar de Professor retoma parte do artigo “Educação infantil e a escola fundamental de 9 anos”, publicado nesta revista em 2009, a fim de debater o que ocorreu na Educação Infantil nesses últimos 14 anos. Buscamos analisar algumas políticas públicas implementadas, bem como avanços e retrocessos em relação à educação das crianças em creches e pré-escolas. Apontamos problemas contemporâneos da Educação Infantil, buscando mostrar a maneira pela qual a criança vem sendo capturada por saberes e poderes atribuindo-lhe uma essência e despolitizando a educação infantil.
