GUARANI’S INTERSEMIOTIC TRANSLATION: THE BOOK IN ITS TRANSMUTATIONS

The article presents a study of translation, of an intersemiotic character, because it is an interart transposition, therefore, in two systems of signs that present different possibilities, codes, and peculiar signs, in relation to the work O Guarani by José de Alencar. The analysis leads to observations of translations that lack significant elements of the novel, such as the character Isabel. A discussion is proposed as to whether this would have happened only due to the needs of the sign system used, the context, the specificity of the artistic languages, or whether there would be another aspect, not yet observed, that became the reason for the suppression of this and other elements, in the process of translation. Because it is a type of translation where it is common for the translator's choices to imply deletions, adaptations and insertion of new elements, the need to conceive the works as original and independent is reinforced.
