Resumo: | In this article we discuss the Professional Master s Degreescourses on Science and Math Teaching which are widely supportedby CAPES in several areas. Such policy had an importantimpact on Science and Math Teaching areas, in such a way thatwe can see a greater number of professional courses than academicMaster s Degrees nowadays. Nevertheless, reflectionson the nature of the professional Master s Degreescourses and on their possible impact in Brazilian society isan absent issue in academic production in Science Educationand in Educational Area, and it is restricted, up to now, to thePostgraduate Brazilian Magazine (published by CAPES ).We aimin this work to incite discussions concerning the nature of the studiesdeveloped in Professional Master s Degrees Courses in relationto the Development and Research Projects. |

Tal política teve significativo impacto na área de Ensino de Ciências e Matemática, na qual, hoje, constatamos um maior número de cursos profissionais do que de mestrados acadêmicos. No entanto, reflexões sobre a natureza dos cursos de mestrado profissional em ensino e sobre o seu possível impacto na sociedade brasileira é uma questão ainda ausente da produção acadêmica das áreas de Educação e Educação em Ciências, restringindo-se, até agora, à Revista Brasileira da Pós-Graduação (publicada pela CAPES).
