Pathways of work: precarious jobs and temporary entries

Youth transits are significant for researching the reconfigurations that take shape in the contemporary world, in its various social spheres. Youth is the social contingent most directly exposed to the dilemmas of our society, and today the unemployment rates among young people in the country are significant. In addition to the barriers to getting and keeping a first job, the difficulties encountered to stay in a dignified and protected job are even greater. The data also show that informality is higher in this group when compared to the group of adults. As for formal employment conditions, it is notorious the presence of young people in jobs with higher turnover and provisional insertions. In this sense, with the objective of unveiling the work paths built by Brazilian young workers, this work intends, by means of unique trajectories and triangulating them with national databases, to analyze two forms of work insertion: the first job through the apprenticeship law and employment in the telemarketing sector. The juvenile paths analyzed have contributed to the fact that flexible forms of employment are a gateway to the exercise of a paid activity. However, the major transformation in recent years is that both precarious jobs and new forms of underemployment - apprentices and telemarketers - are becoming less and less a bridge to stable employment. For many young people, this kind of work is no longer a one-time biographical event, but a way of life.
