Resumo: In the light of the Materialist Discourse Analysis, we analyze textualities that deal with the deaf subject and sign language within the context of government actions and some counter-identification reaction between worker and volunteer, profession and assistance. From our theoretical position, we assume that the functioning of the religious-colonial gearing supports statements about the subject-deaf-in-need, sign language and the form of citizenship that is imputed to that subject. In this enunciative scene, the subject-interpreter enters as the one who would be responsible for transmitting information (produced by listeners) assimilable to charity work and the proselytizing mission (the “Good”). Not without tension, a controversy, produced within the neoliberal ideology, is called into question in relation to the work of this professional. We observed that the discursive memory about the deaf makes meanings about assistance and volunteering work, identified more by its formation than by its position within the capitalist class society.

Universidade Estadual de Campinas2022-06-01info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionTextoinfo:eu-repo/semantics/otherapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.sbu.unicamp.br/ojs/index.php/rua/article/view/866999810.20396/rua.v28i1.8669998RUA; Vol. 28 No. 1 (2022): jun.; 255-281RUA; v. 28 n. 1 (2022): jun.; 255-2812179-99111413-2109reponame:Rua (Campinas.
