The Law N° 13.964/2019, known as Anticrime Package, brought changes to the penal procedural legislation. The protecion to the Chain of Custody was a theme that most deserved attention in the new law, aiming to provide a best reliability to the collected evidences.For being presented as one of the quality concepts applied to the evidences and, therefore, to the expertise area, was analised its importance through two means, where the traceability, credibility and integrity of the object to be held in custody are essential. Objectifying to verify the changes related to the Chain of Custody of criminal trace elements and its relevance in the current context, it discusses the way in which the Custody takes place in the Official Expertise Organ in the State of Maranhão, as well as the way that the State has acted to adapt to the legislative change resulting from the Anticrime Package. It describes the way that the Institutions of Criminal Expertise, responsible for the collection, analysis and custody of traces and evidence in the State of Maranhão, already performed custody and how the chronological history and custody of the traces, object of material evidence, when they leave the custody of the criminalistics to the custody of justice. Thereunto, a qualitative approach was applied, of an applied nature, aiming to explore the subject, to provide familiarity with the theme, in an exploratory and descriptive survey research; where data collection was carried out through visits to the Criminalistics Institutes of Maranhão and monitoring of the chain of custody processing, in addition to bibliographic and documentary research.
