Resumo: | This article presents the multiplicative process involving William Oughtred's (1574-1660) two rulers for calculations, published in 1639 in The Declaration of The Two Rulers for Calculations, an addition to the treatise The Circles of Proportion and the Horizontall Instrvment. For this, we used a methodological approach of documentary research, searching through primary and secondary sources. Thus, we can see that the multiplication operation performed by the apparatus can develop in teachers in initial and continuing education concepts related to proportionality, order and class of the decimal system and properties of logarithms, bringing a practical meaning to a historically sedimented school mathematics. |

Para ello, utilizamos un enfoque metodológico de investigación documental, buscando en fuentes primarias y secundarias. De esta forma, podemos darnos cuenta de que la operación de multiplicación realizada por el aparato puede desarrollar en el profesor en formación inicial y continuada conceptos relacionados con la proporcionalidad, orden y clase del sistema decimal y propiedad de los logaritmos, aportando un sentido práctico a una matemática escolar ya históricamente sedimentada.Esse artigo apresenta o processo multiplicativo envolvendo as duas réguas para cálculo de William Oughtred (1574-1660), publicada em 1639 na The Declaration of The Two Rulers for Calculations, uma adição ao tratado The Circles of Proportion and the Horizontall Instrvment. Para isso, utilizamos uma abordagem metodológica da pesquisa documental, buscando em fontes primárias e secundárias.
