Resumo: The article seeks to discuss the nature and specificity of Physical Education, as well as the possibilities and limits of being considered a discipline of the school curriculum structured and developed from and through scientific theorizing. It seeks to elucidate a proposition defending the thesis that a concept of Physical Education truly built on the scientific bases of knowledge must have the development of three distinct and interrelated dimensions of fundamentals: the philosophical-methodological, the pedagogical theory and the pedagogical practice. It verifies how such levels of fundamentals are developed and articulated in the critical-overcoming approach of Physical Education, urging that the same be done with the other conceptions of teaching existing in this field.

Busca dilucidar una propuesta que defiende la tesis de que un concepto de Educación Física realmente construido bajo las bases científicas del conocimiento debe tener el desarrollo de tres dimensiones distintas y interrelacionados de los fundamentos: la teoría filosófica-metodológica, la teoría pedagógica y la práctica pedagógica. Verifica cómo se desarrollan y articulan tales niveles de fundamentos en el enfoque de superación crítica de la Educación Física, instando a que se haga lo mismo con las otras concepciones de enseñanza existentes en este campo.O artigo busca discutir a natureza e a especificidade da Educação Física, bem como, possibilidades e limites de ser considerada uma disciplina do currículo escolar estruturada e desenvolvida a partir e por meio de teorizações científicas. Procura elucidar uma propositura defendendo a tese de que uma concepção de Educação Física verdadeiramente edificada sob as bases científicas do conhecimento deve ter o desenvolvimento de três dimensões distintas e inter-relacionadas de fundamentos: a filosófico-metodológica, a teoria pedagógica e a prática pedagógica.
